HVAC
Air conditioning, refrigeration, heating, and ventilation systems engineered for efficiency, comfort, and long-term operating economy.

Since 1949 · Little Rock, Arkansas
Mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and fire protection design across more than 6,000 projects — from state buildings and university campuses to K–12 schools, hospitals, and civic landmarks.
Practice areas
We handle every aspect of a building's MEP systems — from air conditioning to fire protection to data infrastructure — using modern modeling tools and decades of institutional experience.
Air conditioning, refrigeration, heating, and ventilation systems engineered for efficiency, comfort, and long-term operating economy.
Domestic water, sanitary, storm, and specialty piping design across commercial, institutional, and healthcare projects.
Power distribution, lighting, communications, and life-safety systems for buildings of every scale and use.
Sprinkler, standpipe, and specialty suppression design coordinated with local AHJ requirements and NFPA standards.
Whole-building energy analysis to inform envelope, system selection, and operating-cost forecasting — LEED-friendly.
Integrated MEP modeling and coordination with the architect's Revit environment. Clash detection and constructible documents.
Three generations of practice
Seven decades of MEP engineering — and every leap in how buildings get drawn, coordinated, and delivered. The tools change. The standard of care doesn't.
1949The firm's first drawings were hand-drafted, blueprinted, and coordinated across trades on the drafting board — one sheet at a time.
1980sComputer-aided drafting arrived and the sheets got sharper. Duct sizing, panel schedules, and pipe routing became digital-native — faster to revise, easier to coordinate.
TodayEvery project is now modeled in three dimensions alongside the architect — services coordinated, clashes resolved, and documents constructible before a single trade breaks ground.
Selected work
State agencies, public school districts, universities, and civic institutions rely on Pettit & Pettit for MEP design that performs on day one and stays affordable to operate for decades.

The firm
Pettit & Pettit was founded in 1949 by Ernest N. Pettit, Jr. and his son Kent A. Pettit. Today the firm is led by Donald R. Huggins, P.E. (President), Tony D. Aycock, P.E. (Vice President), and principals Terry J. Jacks, P.E. and Marcus D. Cathey, P.E.
We're registered professional engineers, engineer interns, senior designers, and LEED-accredited staff. Roughly a third of our work is renovation and retrofit — knowledge of existing construction, budgets, and long-term operating economy is what lets us deliver projects that stay on budget and stay efficient.
About the firmWhether you're an architect building a design team, a general contractor pricing a proposal, or an owner planning a renovation — we'd like to hear about it.
